Blonde Brownies

A different kind of brownie – kind of like a nice soft chocolate chip cookie in a bar. Yummy!

"Blonde" brownies are so named because they are made in the style of a brownie, but they are not (predominantly) chocolate like a brownie is.

Ingredients
Brownies:
  • ⅓ cup butter
  • 1½ cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
Browned Butter Icing:
  • 1½ tablespoons butter
  • 1½ cups icing (confectioners) sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla
  • light cream
Instructions
Brownies:
  1. Melt butter, stir in sugar, eggs and vanilla.
  2. In a small bowl mix flour, baking powder and salt. Add to the butter mixture and blend well. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips.
  3. Pour into a greased 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. for about 30 minutes, until the top springs back when touched lightly. Cool.
Browned Butter Icing:
  1. Put butter in a small saucepan and heat until golden brown. Remove from heat and add icing sugar, vanilla, and enough cream to make a mixture that is easy to spread.
  2. Spread on cooled cake. Cut into squares.
